5U Schoolyard
The 5U-Schoolyard program allows players to discover the game for themselves, while also giving the parents a foundation to build and grow into future AYSO coaches, referees, and administrators. The objective of the AYSO 5U-Schoolyard program is to provide young players and their parents with a "pressure free" introduction to the game of soccer. This is not to be considered a coaching program but is designed to expose kids to soccer. The two goals of this program are to allow the players to enjoy the activities and to let the game be the teacher. There is no post season at this age level; however, each player receives a participation trophy at the end of the season. The program is run with the assistance of

Game Format
The game is played on a small field in 3 v 3 format with no goalkeeper. The team coach acts as the referee to keep the game safe and fun. Parents are encouraged to cheer and not coach.
Let the game be the coach!
Team Formation
The teams are formed with the intent of allowing the children to play with their friends and other children from their school.
Please place special requests on the registration form. We try very hard to meet all requests.
Note for Spring 2025
Based on the number of teams registered for Spring 2025, the 5U and 6U divisions may be combined. If they are combined, 5U will have a short practice once a week at a local park or school, followed by a Saturday game. If there are enough teams for separate 5U and 6U divisions, the 5U division will not have a midweek practice.
