The purpose of the Volunteer Point Policy is to help ensure that AYSO Region 84 recruits, trains, certifies, and fields enough volunteer referees to officiate games played in our Region. Each 8U team is expected to achieve a minimum of 5 points per season and each team in divisions 9U and older is expected to achieve a minimum of 20 points per season. Failure by a team to achieve the point requirement may result in the team not being allowed to participate in post-season tournaments or qualify for placement medals/awards. A team's use of points from independent referees (no family member on a team) may result in a reduced ability to receive points from independent referees in future seasons.
Points awarded for the following (minimum 5 points required for 8U teams; minimum 20 points required for 9U and older teams):
- Referee or Assistant Referee (AR) for matches 9U and above – 2 pts per game
- Referee for 8U matches – 1 pt per game
- Referee Meeting Attendance – 1 pt per referee meeting (2 pts max per team per meeting; 5 pts max per team per season)
- Intermediate Referee Badge Upgrade – 4 pts
- Advanced Referee Badge Upgrade – 6 pts
- National Referee Badge Upgrade – 10 pts
- Youth Referees may only earn points for their own team or a sibling's team
- Independent Referees (no family member on a team) are encouraged not to give points to more than one team
- Points earned from Youth and Independent Referees will be limited to 50% of total team points
Points can only be earned by volunteers with an active Matchtrak account (volunteer must be up to date on all training and certifications). Information on how to become a referee can be found at https://www.ayso84.org/Default.aspx?tabid=864924.
The stated point requirement is a MINIMUM expectation. If every team were to meet their point quota but not do additional games, only about 2/3 of our overall referee needs would be filled. As an incentive for referees to continue to do games, the Region will award a minimum $100 credit towards a pizza party to the following teams:
Team with the most referee points in September from each “division” (see below for division breakdown)
Team with the most referee points in October from each “division” (see below for division breakdown)
Top 3 teams with the most overall referee points in the fall season
Top 3 teams with the most affiliated referees (referee with a family member on the team roster) reffing at least 1 game in the fall season
The Board has the discretion to extend these incentive credits to include more teams based on merit or in the case of ties.
